The only thing worse for your life than money problems are health problems, and the stress caused by money problems can certainly cause health problems, so maybe there isn’t anything worse…(except maybe run-on sentences lol!)

I’ve picked up this terrific book that was recommended at a recent health convention: SECRETS OF SIX-FIGURE WOMEN: SURPRISING STRATEGIES TO UP YOUR EARNINGS AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Barbara Stanny.

Dr. Christiane Northrup & me

The chapter that really grabbed me, like a pit bull to my ankles, (ouch!) was the chapter on under-earners. As she mentioned that we practice “reverse snobbery”, I got goose bumps. I’ve talked with friends, especially my “pious” and poor friends. Many seem to have a disdain for money, yet are often complaining that they don’t have any. That was me!

It reminds me of a question I heard, “How long would your girlfriend be around if you were always putting her down, didn’t value her?” Not very long.

Line Dubois & me

Did I mention how proud under-earners can be? We revel in our ability to make do with less.

This type of thinking is a major obstacle to Abundance or accumulating any kind of wealth.

And in Barbara Stanny’s book, many of the six-figure women were originally under-earners! So, we are keeping good company!

It’s never too late to change!

The thing that changed us was an immediate challenge. My challenge is to live my advancing years as a dream come true, rather than a nightmare! I want my place in the sun and I want to be in a position to care for my family. I want to be there for my parents as they age and I want it to be as pleasurable an experience as possible for all of us.

Donna Zucchi & me

The other part of this that is important is that we must rise to the occasion by stretching ourselves and doing what doesn’t seem natural or comfortable. Up until now, there was no way I could see myself as an internet marketer, let alone becoming an expert and helping others! Anything having to do with technology and computers seemed greek to me.

Internet marketing is still a big challenge on a daily basis for me. It would be easy to walk away. But I can also see it as the answer to my problems, so I step up to it just about every day, even weekends.

I’ve also had to rethink my image of myself and how friends might think less of me for entering this field. OK, 2 minutes on that and then FULL SPEED AHEAD.

Cathy Ngo & me

How often did you hear yourself saying, “I stopped because it just didn’t feel right.” The important part of this to remember is, if something makes me feel uncomfortable and doesn’t fee natural, that’s not a reason to stop. In fact, it may mean I SHOULD go forward.

Becoming a new person is an uncomfortable process and by definition, is not going to feel “right” or natural.

Everyone remembers where they were on September 11, 2001. I was one of those first responders one hears so much about, because there were so many of us.

While there were thousands who were there at the time of the initial impact and were fleeing terrified on foot, there were almost as many going against the tide. We were called the “first responders” and we were going to where we felt we could help. We were policemen and firemen and doctors and nurses. We were also massage therapists, actors, kitchen staff, chefs, clergy, and volunteers from every walk of life.
I don’t know about the others, but I for one was very scared on my way down there. I sat at home watching the images and that evening I picked up the phone and called the one doctor I knew in Manhattan, Dr. Antonio Abad. Antonio worked for Bellevue Hospital and he picked up the phone when he called.
He said, ” I can’t believe you got hold of me. I just walked into my apartment for a shower. I’ve been at Ground Zero since the attack, setting up a triage center. Yes, come right down.”
So the next morning I headed down there. The subway wouldn’t go south of 23rd Street, so I had to walk the rest of the way. The streets were closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. I was walking straight into that big black cloud. I was hoping someone would stop me. Instead, when I got to 14th Street, I saw a bunch of men getting into a truck. They said, “Where are you going?”
I pointed to the cloud.
They said, “So are we. Get in.”
So I got in and they dropped me into the cloud in front of a door. I went inside. The cloud was just as thick inside.
Someone eventually gave me a mask, which I wore day and night for 1 week while I was there. I started by joining the sandwhich hand out line. Then Antonio found me and began bringing me clients to treat.
There were massage tables brought by therapists, as well as cots. Antonio wanted me to identify people who were to exhausted to work so he could send them home. People were working 48, 72 or longer hours straight with hardly a break for food and certainly not for sleep. They were digging through the rubble looking for people. I won’t tell you what they were finding.
A group of massage therapists, chiropractors and I were eventually stationed with a line of tables on the stairway landing. It was a huge stairway and about 10 tables and chairs fit on the landing. We received people to treat night and day. We worked in 24 hour shifts. I don’t know what the others were doing. I was doing CranioSacral Therapy (CST) and Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT).
These therapies examine the fluid flows of lymph fluid and cerebrospinal fluid around the body, similar to taking a pulse and feeling blood flow. What I found is the trauma of 9/11 almost completely stopped the flow of these fluids. This is common in shock and everyone there was in shock. They all had stories to tell. The CST & LDT treatments allowed them to relax for that time with me, and unload their stories. And unload tears.
It was an awful time, and it was a wonderful time. Awful for all the obvious reasons. Wonderful for all the hidden wonders, hidden from the public out in TV land. People were heroic on an everyday basis. They were moved beyond their normal capabilities and rose to superhero dimensions. All of us. Including me.
I never in my life imagined I would be capable of treating through the night, 18 hours nonstop, 2 or 3 hours sleep, and then do it again.
So on September 11, 2011, let’s get together to celebrate our superhero inside. We’re offering a great big room, large enough to hold all of us, our healing light, our traumas, our massage tables.
Please join us.

Ok the good thing that happened recently was I made it home safely. Hurricane Irene tore up & down the east coast and I arrived home last night to my home unscathed. I passed a number of roads that were closed, holes in bridges and trees down.

Little by little the news is coming to me of calamities which befell others, but not me. A friend of my sister’s outside of Albany stepped out to evacuate her house and was swept away and drowned. Extreme sports enthusiasts went white water rafting on my normally quiet swimming hole and had to be rescued after one died.

My home is pristine in its quietness this evening. The cicadas are in concert, punctuated by a vehicle cruising by in the distance from time to time, or the distant soothing clatter of the train passing. I almost hate to go to sleep. It’s so hypnotically wonderful, this nighttime moment.

The town lights glitter from the other side of the river like a string of beads tossed there. The reflected colors of my tifffany lamp look back at me from far away, reflected in the glass of the window.

There an African beaded necklace hangs on the wall, rich in patterned colors. There, the face of the Buddha. The plants are crowding out of the corner and threaten to take over this room. The dog sleeps on his bed. All is natural, peaceful and embracing.

My sincerest gratitude for all the perils that paraded by me, to one side and the other, and those that paraded around my family.

My condolences to those who were not so fortunate.

It’s a melancholy happiness which I experience with tonight’s happiness homework. I can learn that happiness may come in many shapes and sizes and feelings of intensity. I can learn to embrace them all.

the church bells ring.

thank you

Good night

The dusty trail first travels beside a small creek. Then we leave it behind and travel up & up, eventually reaching a ridge above the city. The domes and spires of Salt Lake City glisten jewel-like.

It’s only a couple of miles out of town.

As per Shawn Achor (The Happiness Advantage), I’m diligently doing my 21 days of homework, which is to write in detail every day for 21 days of a recent happy experience.

I just have one problem. There are too many happy things that happened yesterday!

Industry colleagues, fellow Everest trekkers & heart buddies. I'm in front in black.

It was the final day of the USANA convention and the line up of speakers kept me on the edge of my seat the entire day!

As motivating and inspirational as all the speakers were, I want to write about my colleagues in the industry because they touch my heart so profoundly. Some of them are at the top of the industry. Some of them are in the middle. “Living the dream” as the convention theme stated. And some are striving to realize their dreams.

I truly feel that everyone I introduce to these supplements will benefit with enriched, possibly life saving, health advantages. I make what I feel is my small contribution, making as many people as I can aware of how much better they may fare with this additional wellness tool put to use for them.

I did a pretty good job this year and I won an award for introducing so many new customers to our products. My surprise was when I received so many heartfelt congratulations from my colleagues.

I was surprised because I always feel I could be reaching so many more people, helping so many more. How can I do that? So there is this feeling of inadequacy, this striving to be better.

But my colleagues all expressed to me how proud they were of me, of the job I am doing. They seem to be doing so much more than me and yet they are congratulating me!

I mention it because it’s not just me. I see that support, that encouragement, expressed throughout this community.

To all of us in complimentary medicine, it seems an uphill battle. Colleague & speaker Dr. Christian Northrup explained it this way: Today’s medicine is “disease screening.” It has nothing to do with making people healthy.

Dr Northrup and I at the health convention.

We in complimentary medicine have a tough job sometimes convincing people that it’s time to take another approach and make your body able to be healthy despite all challenges.

A special thanks to the Integritas group. This is a group of industry colleagues who work with internet marketing. They are doing their damnedest to make this technology understood and available to all of us. I am definitely one of the over-50 computer challenged. I’m learning from the Integritas group to be able to reach out beyond my small local community. That’s awesome!

Jason Wells of Integritas with Ruth Kohake and me

When I soon have this mastered, I promise I will be one of the best teachers of internet marketing to technologically challenged people like myself! You have my word on that! : )

We got together at a small pub last night and everyone was so happy just to reconnect, go over the highlights of the convention, share insights and plans for this next year. Smiles all around, laughs, and optimistic feelings.

According to Shawn Achor and the latest studies, the most effective way to get anything done is with optimism and happiness.

Sending love,
Elizabeth

Journaling in this context means writing about a positive experience that happened recently, perhaps in the previous 24 hours.

This morning is easy. I just completed the 5 K run to raise money for the Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF). It happens every year at the USANA convention and its a blast. I don’t normally run for exercise. Just once a year at this event. I wasn’t sure I was going to run this year, on account of having a lot of stiffness in my spine because of lyme.

So I started out racewalking & quickly began running & ran to the end.

It’s hard to describe the ecstatic energy this event delivers every year. I run the entire event with a big grin on my face. Everyone is out there to support CHF, which spends 99 cents of every dollar feeding children around the world & in the US.

With Olympic gold medalist Derek Parra, CHF founder & president Dave Philips & team member Donna Zucchi at last years run.

Since USANA has partnered with CHF, USANA Associates have assisted in building an orphanage in Ggaba, Uganda, and in funding several orphan homes. In addition, Dr. Wentz, founder of USANA, has personally funded the building of two Wentz Medical Centres—one in Uganda and one in Cambodia—which treat infections, malaria, malnutrition, and much more.

So we are really REALLY proud of this partnership & this morning over 2,000 of us came out to run and raise money and have a great time! Because whatever I’ve learned being around USANA, is, if it’s worth doing, it’s gotta be FUN & HEALTHY!!

With Dr. Wentz in 2008

So after we finish our personal race, everyone makes a gauntlet for the rest of the runners to run through. It’s a hand slapping, cheering gauntlet to the finish line. Everyone is screaming, smiling and laughing. Everyone is sweaty and smelly and hugging.

CEO Dave Wentz is there, top earners and beginners all together. I get to see all my buddies from our trek to Mt Everest Base Camp last year.

I’ll be high for the rest of the day over this. Except there is more to come!

Love,
Liz

Everywhere I turn, people are either asking me about how to effectively detox or telling me how they are doing it. When they tell me the method they are using, they are often asking if I think this is an effective method. Most of the time, I really don’t know for sure. One measure of effectiveness is if you are feeling better. But many toxins don’t manifest symptoms early on, so it’s hard to go by that. There are very few products that have objective evidence of effectiveness.

Let’s face it, toxins invade our bodies from every direction!! But no need to panic. There are effective ways out there to handle it.

I was really happy to discover this brief video that describes a very simple & easy way to turn on the natural detox process in our bodies. I wanted to share it with you right away because it gives us reliable proof that its actually working! Proven effectiveness is a rarity in many detox products on the market. Check this video out and let’s talk!

Feel free to give me a call at 914 762 4693.

This is my swimming hole pictured here. This is the Croton River, which flows down from the Croton Reservoir and ends in the Hudson River. It’s an interesting river because, like the Hudson, it flows in 2 directions. The Hudson flows from the Adirondack Mountains and ends up in NY Harbor. But at high tide, the Hudson flows in reverse, with salt water coming up the river.

Croton River & my dog, Max

At high tide, the little Croton River also flows in reverse and heads back in the direction of the reservoir until it reaches the small dams in place to provide swimming lakes.

Every moment of every day there is a different delight to enjoy at my swimming hole. It changes depth and light and character with the changing tides, weather, and cloud formations.

This summer there were 2 incidents when anxiety crept into my idyllic get-away. There was the sewage spill at Yonkers and a second spill at Ossining. The Hudson Riverkeeper keeps us aware of “bad” effluent days, even when there is no disastrous spill. The truth is our sewage infrastructure, even on good days, is over-taxed and needs to be brought up to speed with the population growth.

Be sure to check out the Riverkeeper website at www.riverkeeper.org to see how you can contribute to the solution! I was concerned about swimming with all these sewage spills. My favorite spot was never affected, though many beaches were closed. Even so, I wonder what’s getting into me when I swim. As the water flows up to my swimming hole from the Hudson with the high tide, it passes through a natural filtration system of reeds and swamp. When it comes from the other direction, it flows from the Croton Reservoir, which is as pure as it can get.

“As pure as it can get” How pure is that? Recently I got a new water purifier from my friend. I can’t tell you a lot about it, except that I go by the wisdom of my friends on this one. The purifier I got actually has 3 separate filters. One takes out mercury, flouride and chlorine as well as other heavy metals. One aerates it. One takes out drugs!

This one surprised me. Drugs! Of course, what they say is true. We are all one. So if one is taking anti-depressants, anti-biotics, statins, WHATEVER!! Then we all are taking it, because, eventually, it gets in the water!

So this is how I am taking steps to make my home, my body healthy. I’m purifying my water and I’m following the advice of that video, building up my body to detox naturally on its own!

My body will be SUPER capable of de-toxing poisons that never before existed for a body to deal with. Will yours? I’m happy to help you get your body turned into an effective detox machine, too. Just contact me & we’ll get you going.

TO OUR EVERLASTING HEALTH!!
with love,

I love being outdoors. July 4 weekend I participated in the Sapphire Light Medicine Buddha Retreat at the Pema Samye Ling (www.padmasambhava.org). It was an extraordinary weekend of meditation in the precious land of the Catskill Mountains. Of course, I stayed in my tipi!

H. H. Khempo Dzewang gave wonderful teachings and guidance on the practice of Medicine Buddha, the text delightfully entitled “Stream of Sapphire.”

On Sunday, July 3, Khempo gave a very moving talk. He demanded that we “ignite our joy!” and that we do it now! He said we must stay in joy, stay in the light and spread light. After all, it’s called “enlightenment”, not “endarkenment” he said jokingly. His serious message is delivered with humor.

So I am passing on the message of joy! Start now & enlighten our world with our joy!

So I continue to do what I can, with joy. I’ve chosen to PARTY our message of health to all of you. You are all invited to our parties July 9 & 28! Below are all the details!

How do I enjoy the outdoors and take care of my skin? Perhaps you’re aware of the controversy over the skin “protectors” (sunscreens) on the market. Though they are supposed to be protecting us from harm, they contain harmful carcinogens that can potentially make us very sick. The petroleum based ingredients provide shelf life for the sunscreens while shortening ours! Does that make sense?

So here’s the scoop: You can protect yourself with skin creams with no harmful ingredients! If you are wondering about yours, contact me for a free list of harmful skin care additives I can email directly to you. You can check the products your using.

I just received these questions about energy therapies and I thought they were very interesting and worth answering in this forum:
Question 1:
I am wondering what you feel or experience when you do your healing….. Are you drained like a sin eater, burdened like a therapist, saddened as a fellow human being at anothers suffering, energized like an inspired artist?

Question 2:

I also wonder at the fact that it seems your type of therapy requires a certain buy-in and agreement of belief systems by your clients….how do you find such people or educate those suspicious of your arts?

Question 3:

Or am I taking this out of context and is it a simple act of hands on physical work like a physical therapist?

Response to Question 1:

When I am practicing one of the energy therapies (ie CranioSacral Therapy (CST), Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT), Visceral Manipulation (VM) or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for example), the client and I share an energy field (which of course is always true whether one is doing energy therapy or not.) So as I create a peaceful field by assisting in removing obstacles, we both experience that peace. So I am relaxed and peaceful at the end of the session as well as my client.
Response to Question 2:

No, energy therapy does not require any buy-in or pre treatment belief system. It’s very common for a person to arrive skeptical. The belief comes about AFTER the person has had the treatment and sees/feels/experiences the treatment and results. The education is in the experience of the treatment.

One of my newest clients is a young man with Cerebral Palsy (CP). He is 9 years old, but can’t walk or speak and has little control over what he can do with his body. When I first worked on him, I felt very tight membranes throughout his body, especially the cranial and the tissues of the nervous system and spinal cord..

CST is ideal for this situation. I feel the restrictions and gently assist and urge them to open up, relax. His mother could see the beneficial effect on her son. After the first treatment, he was relaxed and happy. After 4 treatments, his demeanor has changed as he is now happier, more relaxed and his body seems less tight. It is a huge relief for her. The biggest concern right now is severe scoliosis. The doctors monitor the bending of the spine and it is looking bad. CST may stretch and relax these tissues sufficiently so his spine begins to improve instead of continuing to deteriorate.

There is no adequate way to describe what one feels during a treatment. You just have to experience it. We give a free consultation and for anyone who reads this article, we will include a free initial energy therapy session.

Response to Question 3:

There is an aspect of it that is simple physical work. I place my hands in the positions that are the prescribed placements, taught when learning the technique. Then there is the magic.
